What players think

The format is seen as fairly slow unless Sneak gets going early, with a big gap between good cards and filler; five archetypes are supported, each with two two-color uncommons. The Sneak Ninjas () and the Robots and Machines () are put on top, with the Rebel Alliance () the best of the remaining supported decks, while Disappearing Mutants () is found slow and Mutagen Turtles () held back by a lack of enablers; red is said to have the weakest commons. Our measured games confirm the top: wins most often and stays near the top (third). Gaps: , which is not supported, places second, and the green-based decks championed as midrange sit from the middle to the lower part of our ranking.

Mechanics of the set

  • Sneak

You may cast this spell for its sneak cost if, during the declare blockers step, you also return an unblocked attacker you control to hand; a creature cast this way enters tapped and attacking.

  • Alliance

An effect each time another creature enters the battlefield under your control.

  • Disappear

An effect at the beginning of your end step, or when the card enters, if a permanent left the battlefield under your control this turn.

  • Mutagen

A Mutagen token is an artifact: for one mana, tap and sacrifice it to put a +1/+1 counter on a creature, only any time you could cast a sorcery.

  • Robots and artifacts

Several cards create Robot tokens (1/1 colorless artifact creatures) or reward the artifacts you control.

To remember

  • Sneak needs an unblocked attacker to return to hand: keep cheap creatures that attack well, as more than twenty cards of the set mention it.
  • Five common lands enter tapped, gain you a life and make two colours, one per main archetype: take the one for your pair.
  • 73 cards are legendary: with two copies in play you keep only one; avoid playing the same one twice.
  • Several commons are removal, such as Manhole Missile, Anchovy & Banana Pizza, Grounded for Life, Bot Bashing Time or Tenderize: take at least a few.

Intrinsic ratings: they do not take into account the cards you have already picked. They matter most for the first pick of the first pack.
